Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Dublin / Waterford
Arrive Dublin Airport and pick up rental car. Drive south towards Waterford. En route stop in Kildare , famous for its racehorse breeding and cattle raising. While here, perhaps enjoy a guided tour of the Irish National Stud Farm as well as The Japanese Gardens. Visit Naas, the home of the Kings of Leinster from the 2nd to the 12th century. Also visit the Boyne River which rises in the Bog of Allen and flows northeast past the towns of Trim, An Uaimh, and Slane in county Meath and Drogheda in county Louth. It empties into the Irish Sea near Drogheda. The river is 113km (70 miles) long and is navigable by shallow-draft vessels only as far as Drogheda. The decisive Battle of the Boyne took place on the banks of the river in 1690 during the so-called Glorious Revolution. Continue to Waterford for your overnight stay at the Clonanav Fly Fishing Center, a three star luxury guesthouse situated on a working farm in the heart of the Nire Valley. The bedrooms are equipped with direct dial telephones, hairdryer and TV. Complimentary tea and coffee are served in the conservatory. There is a tennis/basketball court on site. Hearty breakfasts, wholesome evening meals, using home-produced food and a selection of fine wines are served at Clonanav. For the non-angler or those wishing to take a break from fishing there are lots of attractions such as forest walks, golf courses, horse riding, and, in the centre of our peaceful community, many antiquities for those interested in history and archaeology. Tonight, explore the nearest town, Clonmel, which has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and pubs with traditional music.
Day 2: Waterford
This morning we awake at dawn to the sounds of beautiful, clear running rivers as excellent stocks of wild brown trout a wait you on your visit to Clonanav. The River Suir and its tributaries are famous for their excellent dry fly fishing for wily trout. In August and September there is a good run of salmon in the Suir. The guide, Andrew Ryan, a renowned angler and REFFIS and STANIC approved instructor, organizes your fishing daily, advising on tackle and flies. Clonanav also offers one of Ireland’s leading fly fishing schools, where expert tuition is given to both beginners and experienced anglers. Rods and waders are included and Clonanav has a tackle shop, casting green, and beginners lakes. Fly-tying facilities and a tackle room are available.
Day 3: Waterford / Kerry
This morning is another opportunity to try your luck at casting a few. Afterwards, we begin our journey through Ireland’s southwest region passing through Cork. Perhaps tour Cork City and shop on Patrick St. This city is the cultural and economic capital of the south of Ireland, a university city and just outside it is the most important public art gallery (the Craw
